Plumbers helping you get renovations right
Renovation projects, big or small, aren’t for the faint-hearted and luckily there are experts you can call on for help. Having your plumbers number on speed-dial during the reno period is recommended. They can do more than fix leaks, but you’ll need to meet them and make your plans clear before anyone can raise their tools.
Plan the layout
If you’re a fan of home renovation shows, you’ll see the CGI dioramas of how the room will look once the renovations get completed. But for most people, a simple blueprint will suffice.
It’s common to combine or scale down certain areas to save space. Rather than having a full-scale laundry, more people put the washer/dryer and laundry sink “out of sight”. They’ll get placed in a purpose-built cupboard in a back part of the house or one of the bathrooms. This is common in apartments but homeowners are catching on. Whatever room was designated as the “laundry” can now get fitted as a second bathroom.
Gas or electric?
A question as old as time. Electric fittings are still useful today but they’re getting replaced in favour of gas. This is thanks to several reasons. Gas is a natural resource and cheaper to use, especially if the house is close to a source it can easily connect to. It produces less emissions as well.
Gas doesn’t suit everyone. Most homes still come fitted with electric water heaters and appliances. There are plenty of electric heating options that come in handy for winter: underfloor heating, air conditioning and even tankless hot water systems.
The plumber does the rest
Plumbers are the person you call when a pipe bursts, but some businesses also have renovation services. If needed, they’ll alter the positions of the fixtures to suit the design you have in mind. Your plumber will give reliable information about maintaining your fixtures and connect you to the gas if you’re making the switch. You can also count on them to take care of the laundry, kitchen and bathroom areas.
Before anyone starts plugging in the tools though, you should tell your plumber your plans and how you want the result to look. They’ll do their best to bring your vision to life in a more technical aspect, from installing the water heater to making sure the fittings and fixtures are straight.
